The history presented by mainstream Arizona history books, museums or other historical outlets don't tell the stories of Arizona's trailblazing Latino pioneers, change makers and leaders. The events that impact our communities, the moments in time that would forever change our future, are often forgotten in when telling the Arizona story.
I don't believe that museums or authors are purposefully overlooking Arizona's Latino history - rather, I think that they present a history that is written and presented through a lens of lived experience, as well as social and political power.
Arizonenses, meaning an Arizonan of Mexican American origin, is a project created to preserve, record, protect and to present the important moments, places and people that have made Arizona what it is today. Today, the project is presented in two parts, as an instagram page and as the Arizona Latino Historical Timeline.
The Arizona Latino Historical Timeline is available for presentation to non-profits and corporations as a tool to share Arizona's unique history and to celebrate the contributions of Latinos to Arizona's history.
These projects are a labor of love for Arizona, something that is evident in Latino communities across our state.
